Oregon Solitaire: Poker for One

This poker-based solitaire is a strategic way to kill some time. The game was invented by German game pioneer Reiner Knizia and is featured in his 1995 book “Card Games in the Wild West” (“Kartenspiele im Wilden Westen”).

Gameplay

Oregon solitaire is played with a standard 52-card deck.

The aim of the game is to create the highest-scoring combinations of five cards.

To begin, draw five cards from the deck and put them down in a row in front of you.

  • You can improve the row by drawing more cards from the deck to replace cards in the row.
  • Or you can create a new row with the card you drew.
  • Once you create a new row, you can no longer edit the previous rows.

On a piece of paper, note down how many points you’ve scored according to the below table.
